Multichannel Outreach

Also called: Multi-channel Prospecting, Omnichannel Outbound

Definition

Running cold outreach across email, LinkedIn, and phone in coordinated sequences. Compounds reply rates when executed well.

Multichannel outreach is the practice of contacting the same prospect across more than one channel — typically cold email, LinkedIn (connection request, view, InMail, or DM), and cold calling — in a coordinated sequence. The logic is simple: most decision-makers are not going to respond to a single channel, but the cumulative effect of seeing a relevant message on email and then a connection request on LinkedIn and then a voicemail over the span of two weeks is meaningfully higher than email alone.

A well-run multichannel sequence is not three separate campaigns. It is one sequence where each channel reinforces the others. A common pattern: day 1 cold email, day 2 LinkedIn connection request referencing the email, day 4 LinkedIn engagement (like a post, comment thoughtfully), day 6 follow-up email, day 8 cold call, day 10 final email with a different angle. The exact pattern matters less than the principle — touches should feel connected, not like three separate tools shouting over each other.

The trade-off with multichannel is operational complexity. Managing three channels per prospect, on a list of 2,000 accounts, without a proper tool stack and a clear playbook, is chaos. Teams that run multichannel well have clear channel ownership (usually email and LinkedIn automated through a tool, calls handled manually by an SDR), shared tracking of all touches in the CRM, and rules for when to stop touching a non-responder rather than grinding indefinitely.

When the term matters

Multichannel matters when a single-channel campaign has plateaued — reply rate is stable but not enough to hit pipeline targets — and the bottleneck is attention rather than list. Adding LinkedIn to an email-only program typically lifts positive reply rate by 30–60% when done with real message variation, not just copy-pasted emails into InMails.

Multichannel outreach is the execution layer on top of sequence cadence, cold outreach, and personalization. It is the framework most serious B2B outbound teams run today.
